God Save the King

2016-09-09

After yet another trade coming out of Anaheim, that saw top pairing d-man Johnny Boychuk ship off to Columbus, the Ducks back end was left looking bare, and inviting for the oppositions' offensive stars.

Henrik Lundqvist appears to be the only thing remaining to stop the Ducks from becoming this year's version of the Tampa Bay Lightning. It likely won't become that drastic but nonetheless The Ducks are not what they once were.

The King was once comfortable, with stars like Boychuk and PK Subban in front of him, alongside servicable journeymen Jason Garrison, Mike Weaver, Barret Jackman, and Brad Stuart. Jackman and Stuart remain as mere phantom's of their old selves, but the rest of the guard has been replaced by a much slower, older group: James Wisniewski, Jan Hejda, and Andrew Ference are all in the twilight of their careers.

The King is now uncomfortable. How could he not be, as he enters his age 33 season as a proverbial sitting Duck?

Will Henrik Lundqvist remain in SoCal much longer? My bet is that he's dusting his suitcases off before too long.
