Frenzy - Batch 1

2018-09-10

Hello All,

We’re pretty much ready to fire up Batch 1 of the Frenzy. This year with the changes to the Frenzy, we will be doing a silent pitch to the Email address bfha.frenzy@gmail.com . The Address will start accepting pitches immediately.

These pitches will be accepted for 7 days, until 6:00AM EST time on Sept 18th. Once the deadline has passed, the Free Agent Frenzy Committee will work on processing the pitches and identifying the best pitches for the sake of the player. Term, Base Salary, and a Signing Bonus will factor in, but the most important monetary factor will be base and AAV, but still the players odds of winning a Toro Cup, or playing time, captaincies, role on the team and history with the GM/Coach/Teammates may also factor in.

GM’s who are on the Free Agent Committee are encouraged to submit their offers early in the process to reduce any appearance of bending the rules, but I will add, that only myself and the Commissioner have the password for the Email Address.

Anyway, the following players are available in Batch 1

Mike Smith (G)

Ryan Miller (G)

Travis Zajac (C)

Nick Bonino (C)

Antoine Vermette (C)

Marian Gaborik (LW)

Jason Pominville (RW)

Scottie Upshall (W)

Ian Cole (D)

Marc Staal (D)

Andrew MacDonald (D)

Chris Kunitz (LW)

Chris Stewart (LW)

Also, our lone RFA of the batch is Dmitry Kulikov, please see the Rule book for compensation rules.

Dmitry Kulikov (D)

2016 Contract = 3.5M

Qualifying Offer is set at 3.85M

Also please note when making your pitch, that justification will be expected if you are offering a large contract, especially if your contract isn’t in line with what other GM’s have offered. If your justification is there and it’s reasonable, it’ll increase your chances of being the winning bid.

The frenzy committee will be using the Olympic method to determine the winning bid. That is, we will identify the best bids, then vote, removing the lowest vote receiving team until we are down to two teams, and the team with most votes will sign the player, at which point, we will announce that player as having signed with that team.

Also please note that each GM may only put bids on two players during Batch 1.

~Todd

After a long debate, Mike Smith has decided to sign with the Calgary Flames on a 3 year deal worth 6.0M per year. He will also be getting a 4.5M signing bonus and will become Calgary's number 1 goalie. He wants to thanks all the team who showed interest and was flattered by some of the offers sent his way.

Ian Cole would like to thank the teams who took time to make an offer. He was torn between resigning with the Islanders or moving on. In the End, he went after the combination that ave him the best chance to win, the best contract, and opportunity for his Family. He signed with the Winnipeg Jets for 4 years, paying him 4.75M annually and a 2.0M signing bonus.

STEVE (New York Islanders) LOL - best chance to win... WPG has no first round exit pedigree like Long Island does! Let's be honest, he probably made the right choice. Good luck Ian!

Marc Staal had two very good offers from two teams who look to make noise this season. He decided to go with term and guaranteed money. He signed a 4 year deal with Pittsburgh that will pay him 3.0M annually, with a 2.0M SB right away. His AAV will be 3.5M. Rumours had him very close to signing in Tampa Bay in order to play with his brother Eric, but the term and opportunity in Pittsburgh proved too great.
